The Resource Mothers Program provides education and social support for at-risk pregnant teens, emphasizing the parent’s ability to affect the child’s development. Services are delivered through regular home visits by trained Resource Mothers, who are successful parents drawn from the local community. The Resource Mothers are intended to fulfill many roles, including teacher, role model, and facilitator. They also may provide transportation to mother and child health visits. The home visits begin during pregnancy and continue during the infant’s first year of life.

This model does not meet criteria established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for an evidence-based home visiting model because there are no high- or moderate-rated effectiveness studies of the model.

Does not meet criteria for an evidence-based home visiting model for Indigenous peoples and communities.
