Notes

The manuscript describes two studies: a randomized controlled trial (RCT) and a non-experimental design (NED). This review addressed the findings of the RCT. The review of the NED is addressed under O'Farrelly et al. (2018; Study 2).

The outcome measure "reading frequency" measured at 6 months old does not satisfy the measure reliability requirements under Version 2 of the HomVEE standards. Analyses of child development outcomes at 12 months are not eligible for review because they include frequency of reading to a child at 6 months as a statistical control. Reading frequency at 6 months was measured after the start of the intervention and may be influenced by participation in the home visiting intervention.
